At road.cc every product is thoroughly tested for as long as it takes to get a proper insight into how well it works. Our reviewers are experienced cyclists that we trust to be objective. While we strive to ensure that opinions expressed are backed up by facts, reviews are by their nature an informed opinion, not a definitive verdict. We don't intentionally try to break anything (except locks) but we do try to look for weak points in any design. The overall score is not just an average of the other scores: it reflects both a product's function and value – with value determined by how a product compares with items of similar spec, quality, and price.

Don't know if you've noticed, but it's getting cold out. These Thermolite socks from Prendas are just the ticket to give your toes a bit of extra protection when the wind starts to nip.

Thermolite is a DuPont fabric that's made with hollow fibres, the idea being that they insulate better without adding weight or bulk. Certainly these socks aren't heavyweights but they're a noticeable improvement on summer socks as far as keeping your tootsies warm is concerned, and they'll still fit inside your race shoes. The cuff is a bit longer so you don't get a gap when you're wearing bibs or legwarmers, and they're reinforced at the toe and the heel. They're wearing pretty well, although they're starting to thin now on the side of the ball of the foot, and they wash up nicely on a standard cycle.

Overall they're a great low-season sock. Under a sturdy overshoe they'll be warm enough for everything except the bleakest of winter rides. Once the temperature starts to rise they wick pretty well, too. They're not the most hard-wearing but longevity isn't too bad.

Verdict

Well made autumn/winter socks that should get you through the frost

Here at Prendas we love our socks!

With the recent addition of the Thermo-Cool Autumn/Early Winter Socks, we now have a complete range of socks to get you through the year!

These socks are made from DuPont's excellent Thermolite Base fibres which are actually hollow to provide built in warmth without additional weight. This technology was designed based on Polar bear fur - as that is hollow too!

The nominal temperature range for these socks is -6 to 6 degrees Celsius (21 - 43 degrees Fahrenheit), but of course some people run hot and some cold. So it's up to you.

In addition to the fibres, we have made the sock cuff longer for extra warmth as typically these will be worn under bib tights and/or overshoes.

The socks are anatomical cut to provide extra comfort on long riders and also feature a reinforced toe and heel area for added durability.

Features:

* Hard wearing

* Made in Italy

* Excellent wicking Fabric

* Reinforced toe and heel area

* Anatomical Cut
