Altura Egrofit gilet

Altura tell us that the Ergofit Gilet “offers unrestrictive core body warmth and protection from the elements”. Sounds promising, especially from a competitively priced gilet (some posh ones cost £150+), how did it do?

First impressions from the packet were good, lovely feel, a nice weight and a smart design. I have a thing about white cycle clothing at the moment, not usually all white but highlights seem to make me stop and stare, this got through though and I have to say it does look good. To me it looks smart and uncomplicated (though it doesn’t suit the muddy roads of late – perhaps the black alternative would have been a better bet). Fit is impressive too, the multi-panel design ensured that the gilet fitted my form well and didn’t ride up when I was in an aggressive cycling position.

Mesh rear panels help to control body heat by moving warm air out from the front of the gilet where the windproof fabric does a top job at eliminating chill. The full length zip is of high quality and fits neatly into its own little hood to prevent irritation to your neck. The 100% polyester construction results in a soft touch, easy to look after garment that I would heartily recommend. Available in sizes from M to XXL this should be worth a look for most riders after a good value, well made, functional gilet for the winter months.

Verdict

At an rrp of £44.99 I'd buy it (as per usual, a quick trawl will find it cheaper online but don’t discount the LBS for good service and being able to try it on). Smart to look at, lovely to ride in. It does what it says on the label and it does it for an affordable price. Good job Altura.

What the road.cc scores mean

Here's how we roll at road.cc: every product is thoroughly tested for as long as it takes to get a real insight into whether it works or not. We don't intentionally try to break anything (except locks) but we do try to look for weak points in any design. The score reflects a product's function and value. Good scores are more common than bad, because fortunately good products are more common than bad. Here's what they mean:

4 stars Very good
3.5 stars Good
3 stars Quite good
2.5 stars Okay
