At road.cc every product is thoroughly tested for as long as it takes to get a proper insight into how well it works. Our reviewers are experienced cyclists that we trust to be objective. While we strive to ensure that opinions expressed are backed up by facts, reviews are by their nature an informed opinion, not a definitive verdict. We don't intentionally try to break anything (except locks) but we do try to look for weak points in any design. The overall score is not just an average of the other scores: it reflects both a product's function and value – with value determined by how a product compares with items of similar spec, quality, and price.

If like me, you enjoy cycling and also enjoy a good ale (never together of course, well maybe just a few but always responsibly) what better way to celebrate the union of such pleasurable past times than to have something on your bike that advertises your favourite tipple. These Mucky Nutz bar end caps stop the open cavity at each end of your handlebars from performing as a pizza cutter but to top things off, literally, they allow the metal cap from a beer bottle to be pressed on. Genius!

Metal beer bottle caps are obviously very tough being metal and all, but once they start looking tatty you have the perfect excuse to find some replacements! The bar tabs come in 3 servings; Draught, with an expanding rubber bung at £10, Homebrew, which is a push fit bung priced at £7 and Premium which clamps over the end of the handle bar using grub screws, price tba. I had troubles finding handlebars that had a thin enough side wall to allow the bungs in; the Homebrews need a bar with an inner diameter of 18-21mm which pretty much cancels any alloy bar out but the Draught bar tabs can squeeze into a bar with an inner diameter of 17mm which should fit most bars, alloy or other. The Premiums should be just the ticket for all bars, as they fit over the end.

A great addition to any pub adventure bike.

Verdict

Probably the safest bar tab you could ever have and the cheapest too! Great, quirky, practical finishing touch to your bicycle. It is nice to see that people can make things with a sense of humour
