At road.cc every product is thoroughly tested for as long as it takes to get a proper insight into how well it works. Our reviewers are experienced cyclists that we trust to be objective. While we strive to ensure that opinions expressed are backed up by facts, reviews are by their nature an informed opinion, not a definitive verdict. We don't intentionally try to break anything (except locks) but we do try to look for weak points in any design. The overall score is not just an average of the other scores: it reflects both a product's function and value – with value determined by how a product compares with items of similar spec, quality, and price.

This offering from Shimanos spin off accessory brand PRO is certainly a great looking piece of kit, very slim and nicely finished. It also has just about everything you could need when out on the road tool wise except a chain tool and a couple of tyre levers.

For £14.99 you get 2,3,4,5 and 6mm Allen keys and a Phillips screwdriver. It also features a 2 inch measuring rule laser etched into the side of the tool body. What this is exactly for I dont know, my best guess would be to quantify the effects of your saddle on a cold day whilst on a nature break?

So what is it like to use? On the plus side it's small, light and hasn’t corroded from sweat in 6 weeks, but its functionality is let down by being fiddly and difficult to use. First use it fell out of my hand and almost straight into a drain - perhaps a bad place to stop. Even in light full finger gloves I found extracting the correct size tool difficult and the polished chrome coating makes the tool more likely to slip out of bolts. Tolerance on the fit is OK but it’s just not a match for the quality of a Park Tool AWS-10 which also features a confidence inspiring grippy matt finish.

Verdict

To sum up this product in three words I would say "Form over Function". Although ideally you should never need to use a tool roadside this tool is let down by its functionality as a direct result of its aesthetic centred design. A great choice for the multi tool fashion conscious but not the tool for me
