When the chill of winter starts to bite it's time to reach for the Cannondale Midweight Jersey to keep you cycling through to the spring. Ideal for cool days, it also makes an effective base layer under a jacket.
The detailing on the Cannondale Midweight Jersey is deceptively simple, no over the top graphics or branding, instead the focus is on quality of construction. I found that the jersey works best as a first layer and fits easily under a jacket on cold days without bulking you out or becoming frustrating on long rides. On its own, it suits cool weather and energetic rides – wicking is good, it doesn't remain soggy and the 10in zip provides enough ventilation. If you are going to wear this as a single layer then you need to make sure you are going to keep active and warm.
The midweight fabric blend of polyester and spandex offers 4-way stretch and good thermal and moisture-wicking properties. Competition Fit means the jersey is contoured to the body and it certainly has the trim, aerodynamic silhouette of traditional cycling wear. If you're in the market for a cool weather top for club rides, or longer training days in the saddle this could well do the job.
Three rear pockets expand to provide handy storage for snacks, lip balm other winter riding essentials; a small centered zip back pocket is ideal for house keys and other valuables. Seams are flatlocked throughout to prevent chafing on long rides and a full-length front zipper allows convenient temperature control and easy on and off. The extended tail keeps your backside covered and the raglan sleeves allow uninhibited arm and shoulder movement. A small reflective cannondale logo on the rear of the jersey increases visibility for approaching traffic while maintaining the casual, understated design of this top.
The feel of the jersey is snug and well fitted. The quality of the materials is up to Cannondale's normal high standards but do take care with the fabric and stitching as I have noticed a small amount of ‘bobbling’ and stitching coming away after only two washes. Nevertheless, if you are in the market for a jersey to wear as a single layer on a sprint or autumn day or as a base layer for winter rides then this is a serious contender. It does the job very well without being overpriced or over designed
