At road.cc every product is thoroughly tested for as long as it takes to get a proper insight into how well it works. Our reviewers are experienced cyclists that we trust to be objective. While we strive to ensure that opinions expressed are backed up by facts, reviews are by their nature an informed opinion, not a definitive verdict. We don't intentionally try to break anything (except locks) but we do try to look for weak points in any design. The overall score is not just an average of the other scores: it reflects both a product's function and value – with value determined by how a product compares with items of similar spec, quality, and price.

I found the Liv/Giant Allure Helmet to be decidedly average for road use. It's billed as a trail helmet and maybe the complex ventilation system of internal channels and 18 external vents work better on the trail, but on the road I didn't find the internal airflow any different from more budget models.

The Allure is a reasonably featured, reasonable weight lid, but I didn't find anything to particularly recommend it. At 340g it's mid rather than light weight, and the EPS leaves a fair amount of exposed foam.

In terms of comfort, the back adjuster dial was effective but the basic nylon straps had no additional padding for under chin protection. Head padding was also minimal which was fine for short to medium rides, but I'd not want to be out all day in this lid.

The removable visor is able to be adjusted through 12 degrees and though it felt reasonably flimsy, it didn't break in use.

The Allure is available in one size, stated on the label as 50-57cm and on the website as website claim of 53-60cm. My 56 cm head was fine and the helmet felt like a 'one size fits most' offering fit for the average sized head.

This helmet is available in just one colourway, a crackled white with turquoise undertones.

Don't get me wrong, there's nothing bad about this helmet, it just doesn't have anything that makes it stand out from the vast choice in this price range.

Verdict

Pricy for the (lack of) features - basic entry helmet. Choose it if you like the colour.
