Muc-Off Foam Fresh helmet and shoe cleaner
Muc Off foam fresh is a helmet and shoe cleaning product. Muc off seem to be aiming it more toward helmet liners and pads than other items of cycling apparel but its uses to extend beyond this.
I have used it to clean and refresh the pads in my Giro Ionos, Giro Prolight test helmet and my girlfriend's Specialized Chamonix. It works well, gives a nice, clean smell and dries relatively quickly. A quick scrub of the foam reduces any odours and removes dirt.
However, the place it's been most useful is on my triathlon cycle shoes and trainers. In a race I never wear socks so my shoes are in for a tough time. Over a season I may try various methods to keep the shoes clean and 'fresh', even resorting to the washing machine for my trainers at times. What do you do with carbon soled cycle shoes though? Warm water? Cold water? Steam? Foam Fresh seems to work better than anything else I have tried in this test situation.
A quick spray and the formula foams up inside the shoe making it far easier to reach all of the corners and hard to get to places that previously may have eluded me. I would say my trainers and cycle shoes are easily going to last me another year if I continue to use this stuff. In these credit crunching times, spending £6 to delay the purchase of two pairs of shoes cant be a bad idea can it?
Verdict
Worked a treat, I dont know how much of a benefit it would have to those of us who really look after their kit every day anyway. Wearing proper cycling socks, ventilating the shoes and your helmet when not being used and boxing everythign up when dry but for those of us out in the rain, getting our shoes and clothes muddy...muc off foam fresh is £6 (at wiggle) well spent.
