At road.cc every product is thoroughly tested for as long as it takes to get a proper insight into how well it works. Our reviewers are experienced cyclists that we trust to be objective. While we strive to ensure that opinions expressed are backed up by facts, reviews are by their nature an informed opinion, not a definitive verdict. We don't intentionally try to break anything (except locks) but we do try to look for weak points in any design. The overall score is not just an average of the other scores: it reflects both a product's function and value – with value determined by how a product compares with items of similar spec, quality, and price.

At just £29.50 Tribesports' short sleeve cycling jersey is certainly priced at the budget end of the marketplace. Get the miles in though and you'll find its only the cost that is entry level.

Tribesports is based around its community, launched back in 2011 as a hub where sportspeople from around the world could motivate, celebrate and offer each other advice. After listening to their member's complain about how much they were paying for their sportswear the apparel side of things was created. Tribesports Performance sells direct from their online store and uses members' feedback for the development.

The cycling range is pretty new and at the moment consists of this short-sleeve jersey and tights in both men and women's ranges.

The jersey itself is made from an 88% polyester, 12% spandex mix which creates a very pliable 4-way stretch material. Tribesports have gone for an aero fit which means it's pretty-figure hugging and not for the body conscious. It feels like a mild compression top giving the muscles a bit of support.

The stitching is flatlock which means no rubbing or chafing when you're in the saddle and the raglan sleeves provide plenty of movement at the shoulder which all together makes for a very comfortable jersey. You get a dropped hem which is elasticated to keep it in place. The jersey is a decent length and the form fit stops any of the material bunching up.

The material itself isn't quite as good at wicking as some of the top end jerseys we've tested but the addition of mesh panels on the underside of the arm and down the sides do make a huge difference to cooling. The zip is 22cm long so you can also drop that to get a bit of air in there as well.

Round the back are three pockets though not in the usual style. Instead, you've got two normal deep ones with a zipped secure pocket on the outside of one of these. This is the one place the material lets itself down a bit. Even a phone or bunch of keys feels heavy and can bounce around when you're turning a decent cadence. Not a major issue but I'd suggest a slightly less stretchy material for the pockets.

Overall the Tribesports is a decent jersey in its own right but when you take the price into consideration it's a very impressive performer. A couple of things like the pockets and the limited wicking could do with tweaking but they both take very little away from the fit, comfort and overall build quality.
