Someone's walking off with some top Autumn gear - is it you?...

My word people like the idea of free Vulpine Schwag, over 1200 of you commented in to tell us your favourite cycling season, all bases were covered but early indications are that summer was the winner. And the winner of the Vulpine Harrington Rain Jacket, Cotton Rain Trousers, Long Sleeve Merino Alpine, and Short Sleeve Polo? Well that's…

jimbocrimbo

Who despite what his name might suggest likes cycling in the early autumn best.

Congrats to the winner, who will be getting his fancy clobber soon (well before Chrimbo) and commiserations to the 1,276 of you who lost out. Fret not though we'll have another chance to win some top quality cycling schwag coming your way… Soon.

In the meantime you can console yourself by popping over to  Vulpine to think about what might have been season?

Spring - winter has gone, the days are getting longer and the cycling event calendar starts in earnest! Mind you, anytime is great on the bike, provided the weather gods are smiling!

Late Summer for me. When I'm as fit as I'm going to be for the year and I can just really enjoy every mile and every climb.

Autumn, talk about the great summer and the leaves are turning, the sky is still blue and the legs have some strength after longer rides

If and when they happen, Indian summers make for almost perfect riding weather...

Late spring - kind of may/ early June time. Weather tends to be good, but can't cope when it gets too hot later on!

Like everybody I prefer the summer but realistically I’m not fussed what season it is as long as I get my weekly dose of hours on the road.

Winter.
A northern wind howls down the hills, stopping you in your tracks and freezing your nose drips to your stubble. The roads, covered in ice, invisible shards of flint and oily mud threaten your premature end on every corner. Your fingers, so numb you can't pull on your brake levers, somehow still have more feeling than your toes. And your face.
20 miles from home you get a puncture. With your useless stumps at the end of your arms, it takes you half an hour to change your tube. You set off in twilight, snow dusting your helmet. Your chain snaps. You cry, and your tears become icicles. You will not get home.
Winter.

Off road in the winter, on road in the summer.

Summer mornings on long hills and a sunny spin home. Delicious.

Winter. Cold crisp mornings, with a touch of frost, when you can see your breath. Perfect

Late summer/early autumn. Still warm (so no need for tons of riding clobber) but sun slightly lower in the sky and scenery/vegetation just a bit more varied.

I like them all as long as it's not wet. Autumn's good though for blue skies and bowling along with a tailwind making the leaves tumble along with you.

Spring - it's fresh & clear and you can get the proper bike off the turbo and back on the roads. Plus you can make big performance gains in short amounts of time as your fitness returns.

I love the spring, because the first time I leave the office without putting my lights on is how I know that things are starting to get lovely again.

Spring - days are getting longer. Crisp mornings. Knowing you have a few months to get your fitness up for long Summer runs.

Mid summer - running near full fitness and not yet getting fatigued. Long nights for club rides without lights.

Crisp winter days with cloudless blue skies, leafless hedgerows, quiet country lanes, save for the swish of the club cyclists tyres.
