Plus an extended version if you're not into the whole brevity thing.....

The racing season is almost over and a long winter beckons, but one thing October brings - apart from falling leaves and the Giro di Lombardia - is the route announcements of the next year's Giro d'Italia and Tour de France.

The 2014 Giro of course starts in Ireland, and we're looking forward to the official launch in Milan on Monday, but in the meantime organisers RCS Sport have released their promo video for the 2014 race which is in fact a helter skelter look back at this year's edition. We like it.

And if, as the Dude said, you're not into the whole brevity thing, here's a longer 10-minute video of this year's race.

Born in Scotland, Simon moved to London aged seven and now lives in the Oxfordshire Cotswolds with his miniature schnauzer, Elodie. He fell in love with cycling one Saturday morning in 1994 while living in Italy when Milan-San Remo went past his front door. A daily cycle commuter in London back before riding to work started to boom, he's been news editor at road.cc since 2009. Handily for work, he speaks French and Italian. He doesn't get to ride his Colnago as often as he'd like, and freely admits he's much more adept at cooking than fettling with bikes.
