Three people have been arrested for killing a cyclist in a hit and run while drink driving in a stolen car.
A 27-year old woman from Kingsfold died at the scene when she and her bicycle were hit by the car on Friday evening at around 8pm.
According to the police and local media reports the cyclist was hit by a silver Citroën Xsara when it crossed double white lines and entered the opposite carriageway on the A29 near Pulborough in Sussex when overtaking a grey Audi Q7. The driver of the Xsara then fled the scene.
A 26 year old man from Billingshurst, believed to be the driver, was later arrested in Storrington, five miles away, on a charges of causing death by dangerous driving, drinking and driving and driving while disqualified.
A 22-year-old woman from Crawley and a 17-year-old boy from Horsham were arrested at the scene for also for causing death by dangerous driving, drinking and driving and theft of a vehicle.
They all remain in custody.
Sergeant Stewart Goodwin from the road policing team said: "We are appealing for anyone who saw a silver car travelling in the Stane Street area around 8pm.
"We need to speak to any witnesses who saw what happened or saw the car prior to the collision. Please speak to us on 101 or email collision.appeal [at] sussex.pnn.police.uk quoting Operation Barnward."
Charges have now been brought in this case so commenting on this news item has been disabled
