Ride like a pro with Jaguar Ride Out events for chance to join Team Sky training camp

Grand finalists will be tested for riding and driving skills, best two get tickets to Majorca

From September 29 to October 13 Team Sky and Jaguar are running a series of rides out of Jaguar dealers under the banner ‘Ride like a Professional’. Participants will have the chance to take part in a grand final event with Team Sky at a private test track.

Just like the team, riders will have vehicle support in the form of Jaguar’s XF Sportbrake estate, the car Sky has been using since the 2012 Tour de France.

There will be 15 rides in Welwyn Garden City, Guildford, Luton, Woodford (London), West Sussex, Southampton, Plymouth, Truro, Bristol, Newcastle, Houghton-le-Spring (Tyne and Wear), Stockton-on-Tees, Wilmslow, Stoke-on-Trent and Worcester.

Two cyclists from each ride will be selected by Jaguar to compete in the Grand Final which will test both driving and riding ability. Finalists will be  driven by professional racing drivers in a range of Jaguar 'R' and 'R-S' vehicles, as well as the new F-TYPE, and will test their own driving skills against the clock in the Directeur Sportif Challenge, which will involve the driving skills required to support a professional cycling team.

Grand finalists will also compete in a time trial challenge, with the top two participants’ combined cycling and driving times winning a trip to Team Sky’s winter training camp in Majorca.

To find out more an to register go to the Jaguar Ride Out website.

John has been writing about bikes and cycling for over 30 years since discovering that people were mug enough to pay him for it rather than expecting him to do an honest day's work.

He was heavily involved in the mountain bike boom of the late 1980s as a racer, team manager and race promoter, and that led to writing for Mountain Biking UK magazine shortly after its inception. He got the gig by phoning up the editor and telling him the magazine was rubbish and he could do better. Rather than telling him to get lost, MBUK editor Tym Manley called John’s bluff and the rest is history.

Since then he has worked on MTB Pro magazine and was editor of Maximum Mountain Bike and Australian Mountain Bike magazines, before switching to the web in 2000 to work for CyclingNews.com. Along with road.cc founder Tony Farrelly, John was on the launch team for BikeRadar.com and subsequently became editor in chief of Future Publishing’s group of cycling magazines and websites, including Cycling Plus, MBUK, What Mountain Bike and Procycling.

John has also written for Cyclist magazine, edited the BikeMagic website and was founding editor of TotalWomensCycling.com before handing over to someone far more representative of the site's main audience.

He joined road.cc in 2013. He lives in Cambridge where the lack of hills is more than made up for by the headwinds.

Got confirmation last night of my place (Guildford) on the 6th October. Should be a laugh - anyone else confirmed?.

The locations do rather cluster, don't they? A bit more spread would seem polite.

As usual the East of England gets ignored! Nothing out of Peterborough at all!

I have applied for 2 of these dates (plymouth and Truro) so will see what happens to the email within 24hrs...

Im only just in the age bracket but am guessing this is due to the next step being a driving day? Ive got the exact car they'd probably like me to come out of to drive on of theres tho, so I wonder if that will have any weight on a place!

Some pretty restrictive T&Cs... For a start you have to currently drive a car, be over 28 and happen to be free all of this Sunday!
