Rapha has announced dates and details of its 2013 UK Super Cross cyclo-cross series, billed by the clothing maker as “Quite possibly the most entertaining three days of racing the UK has ever seen.”
According to Rapha there will once again be “lashings of beer, a healthy smattering of cowbells, frites and pies – not to mention course features such as the tequila shortcut, wall of foam and new Spiral of Doom for the novice race.
“Entry for spectators is free and the race action will be called by the best race commentator in the known world (well, Hampshire). Our beer tents will be dispensing the finest brews Belgium can, er… brew, and you can also feast on pies, waffles and other suitably heartwarming fare. There’s live music from Rapha’s very own race DJ and you can also enjoy a whole load of other stuff (but mainly cowbells).”
To whet your appetite, here's a video from last year's series
The three races in the series are:
Saturday October 19 - Broughton Hall, Skipton, North Yorkshire, BD23 3AE
Sunday October 20 - Philip’s Park, Manchester
Sunday October 27 - Alexandra Palace, London
Our official grumpy Northerner, John has been riding bikes for over 30 years since discovering as an uncoordinated teen that a sport could be fun if it didn't require you to catch a ball or get in the way of a hulking prop forward.
Road touring was followed by mountain biking and a career racing in the mud that was as brief as it was unsuccessful.
Somewhere along the line came the discovery that he could string a few words together, followed by the even more remarkable discovery that people were mug enough to pay for this rather than expecting him to do an honest day's work. He's pretty certain he's worked for even more bike publications than Mat Brett.
The inevitable 30-something MAMIL transition saw him shift to skinny tyres and these days he lives in Cambridge where the lack of hills is more than made up for by the headwinds.
