Lake launched their new MX331 cyclocross shoe at Eurobike. We first brought you spy shots of the prototype shoe earlier this year. At the show we met up with Lake’s Brett Lindstrom to talk us through the details of the new shoe.

Cyclocross specific shoes are, a rare breed indeed and this is the only cyclocross race shoe we know off - I'm sure you'll let us know of any others out there though. Northwave have recently released a cyclocross winter boot, but this new shoe from Northwave is designed especially for the demands of racers. In cyclocross stiffness and the ability to run up muddy banks trump all other concerns.

So it’s  basically a mountain bike shoe with a much stiffer, almost completely rigid carbon sole. Reducing the rubber on the sole has reduced the weight. To provide incredible traction when you’re forced to dismount and carry the CX bike up steep muddy banks, they’ve added aggressive studs, four paddle shaped ones at the front, and two at mid-foot. The cleat section is modular so you can adapt the shoe for different conditions.

The upper is made from the same Kangaroo leather Lake use on other shoes in the range, which is say is supple and durable. The heel cup is heat mouldable so you can get a really good fit. A Boa dial, which Lake have been using for 10 years, is utilised.

We've no official word on availability, but with the cyclo-cross season now in full swing, it should be soon. The price? It'll cost £269.99. Check out www.todayscyclist.co.uk for more.
