Prudential RideLondon Grand Prix lineupWestminster Grand Prix women's race on final day of Tour of Britain
London is to host a women's Grand Prix event on the final day of the Tour of Britain this autumn, with one of the most spectacular racing backdrops in the world.
Following on from the Prudential RideLondon Grand Prix last week in St James Park, the Westminster Grand Prixon Sunday 22nd September will see riders sweep past Downing Street and Northumberland Avenue, before heading along the Embankment and through the shadow of Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament.
The final corner will bring riders through Parliament Square and back into Whitehall in front of the massed Tour of Britain crowds.
The ToB organisers, SweetSpot, have made a commitment to women's cycling, and this one-hour race will see some of the country's best female riders out in force.
“This is a fantastic chance to provide spectators with the chance of seeing more top class racing and some of Britain’s top female cyclists in action during the final day celebrations in London,” said SweetSpot Director Guy Elliott.
Entry is open to riders ranging from club cyclists to Olympic Champions, in an E1/2/3 field, with entry available now via the British Cycling online entry system at a cost of £5.
The Tour of Britain begins in Peebles in the Scottish Borders on Sunday 15th September, finishing in the centre of London eight days later on Sunday 22nd September, with live coverage in the UK on ITV4 and British Eurosport.
Amateur cyclists wishing to be a part of the Grand Depart weekend can join in The Tour Ride Scotland on Saturday 14th September, taking on 50 and 100-mile Rides between Peebles and Drumlanrig Castle.

The men are not riding a road race in London but a circuit race, as are the women.
Yeah I did that at the TdF and got fed up not being able to leave my square foot of claimed land, without fear of losing it. I appreciate this won't be a busy but was hoping to able to get a seat to use as base camp, between food/beer runs
I have asked the organisers but had nothing back, so I will try here - does anyone know if thee will allocated seating in London for the last stage of the ToB?
Possibly / Probably at the finish line but you can watch it anywhere along the route for free.
Open to E/1/2/3 - a strong club rider could enter just for the experience.
I figure Guy E is trying to point out that's the final stage of the ToB will be taking place that day and all the logistics, outriders etc will be focused on that, making it difficult to run a full womens road race on the same day.
Gizmo's sentiment is spot on though, the presence of a 1-hour crit will, IMHO, do even more to make the gender gap obvious that a complete lack of womens racing would. Think about it; a lay person only seeing the men might think "oh, female events must be on a different day, or they have different races", but with a crit in there, it's like "oh, the men get a week-long stage race, and the women get... this?!"
