Giro stage 19 cancelled due to snow

It's been chucking it down all night so there's no chance of racing today...

Today's stage of the Giro, from Ponte di Legno to Val Martello, has been cancelled due to adverse weather.

The stage route had already been changed to steer the riders away from the high passes of the Gavia and Stelvio; pictures tweeted from the Stelvio in particular showed the road clear but walls of snow up to 15ft high on either side. The decision was made to change the route to include the lower passes of the Tonale and Castrin, but heavy snow on both those roads, and along the entire length of the route, has left the organisers with no option to cancel the stage in entirety. In theory racing will resume tomorrow, but with three high passes and a summit finish on the 2,304 Tre Cime di Lavaredo on the parcours for Saturday's stage, and further snow forecast, it's likely the route of that stage will also have to be altered.

I've got nothing against snow, in fact I'm a snowman myself.

Oh well, I have been watching this on Eurosport highlights out of commitment to starting it. I really was watching for Wiggo but kept going as once you start something... So this has saved an hour of my life, and Nibali will win no doubt, I might watch Graham Norton instead.

They should line Di Luca up and pelt him with snowballs then finish him up under a plow. Thankfully another 'old guard' out of the sport and about time to.

I think Nibali had won the Giro regardless of whether they had this stage and tomorrow's cancelled or not. I was however looking forward to the battle between Betancur and Majka for the young riders classification

They should have a team snowball fight, might shake the rankings up a bit

Good for Cav. They may as well crown Nibali now.
