Route change for Giro d'Italia Stage 19 tomorrow means no Gavia or Stelvio

Poor weather forces organisers to change route of race for second time in a week

For the second time inside a week, poor weather in the Alps has forced Giro d'Italia organisers RCS Sport to reroute a stage of the race, with tomorrow's itinerary now missing out both the Passo Gavia and the Passo dello Stelvio - the latter was to have been the Cima Coppi, the highest summit in this year's race.

Instead, the race will hit the Passo del Tonale early on after the start in Ponte di Legno, and will then head over the Passo del Castrin at aorund the mid-point of what at 160km will be a longer stage than the 139km version originally envisaged, but which will miss out those two big climbs.
