'Hug an Historian' night comes to Look Mum No Hands on 30 May

Evening will feature Carlton Reid and US historian David V Herlihy; hugs optional

If you like to spend an evening learning new stuff about old stuff, then Hug an Historian at Look Mum No Hands should be just the ticket.

The evening will feature a talk by Carlton Reid, introducing some of the characters that will feature in his upcoming book, Roads Were Not Built For Cars. The book is due to be published later in the year after a very successful Kickstarter campaign which raised over four times the £4,000 originally asked.

Also talking at the event is US historian David V Herlihy who'll be showing recently-discovered photographs of cycling pioneers Thomas Allen and William Sachtleben. The pair embarked on a round-the-world trip by bicycle in 1891; The photos have been scanned from negatives discovered in the archives of University of California, Los Angeles, and include images from Greece, Turkey, and Persia.

The evening's entertainment starts at 7pm and entry is free.

Dave is a founding father of road.cc, having previously worked on Cycling Plus and What Mountain Bike magazines back in the day. He also writes about e-bikes for our sister publication ebiketips. He's won three mountain bike bog snorkelling World Championships, and races at the back of the third cats.
