Minutae: Celebration of coffee and cycling on 9th May

Look Mum No Hands hosting a short series of talks about coffee and cycling next week

Share your passion for cycling with a passion for coffee? Then head to Look Mum No Hands on Thursday 9th May for three hours of talks that aim to reveal the intricacies of the worlds of coffee and cycling.

There will be talks from top coffee roasters including Square Mile and Hasbean, plus talks on bike fit, saddle pain, and pedalling technique from Cyclefit, and finishes with a talk on whether steel is real.

The organisers call the evening, which is free to attend, a “shared celebration of focus, attention to detail and obsession.” And it’s open to novices and seasoned pros in the discipline of coffee drinking and pedal turning.

Here’s the programme for the evening:

Stephen Leighton - Owner of Hasbean Coffee, Cup of Excellence Judge

“How To Buy ‘Lots’ Of Coffee”

Have you ever stopped to consider where your coffee comes from? Steve compares some of the differing methods of how he sources and buys wholesale lots of coffee.

Daniel Webb - Owner & Head Roaster at Crediton Coffee Company, Crediton

"Speciality Coffee Roasting in the Urban Environment"

A talk on the artisan skill of roasting coffee, revealing how roasting process emissions are being reduced by a previously unused method of 'green-cleaning' our exhaust gases.

James Hoffmann - Owner of Square Mile Coffee Roasters, 2007 World Barista Champion.

“The Hidden World Of Well-Brewed Coffee”

Over 99% of cups of coffee served around the world aren't brewed properly. Getting them right can make an enormous difference to your brew at home.

James Hewitt - Business Development Manager and Cycling Analyst at Cyclefit, Covent Garden.

“Are You Sitting Pretty?”

The vast majority of us who have cycled regularly over the years will have experienced saddle pain, or even injury related to saddle choice. But which saddle is right for you?

Phil Cavell - Director and Senior Cycling Analyst at Cyclefit, Covent Garden

“Pulling Power”

In this presentation Phil will destroy the misconception that ‘pulling’ develops a more efficient pedalling style, and suggest ways in which you can perfect your own pedalling.

James Hewitt & Phil Cavell

“Is Steel Real?”

Steel is, so the saying goes, real. But what does this mean? With the advance of technology has steel as a frame material, with its famed blend of comfort and lively ride quality, been succeeded by newer space-age materials?

David worked on the road.cc tech team from 2012-2020. Previously he was editor of Bikemagic.com and before that staff writer at RCUK. He's a seasoned cyclist of all disciplines, from road to mountain biking, touring to cyclo-cross, he only wishes he had time to ride them all. He's mildly competitive, though he'll never admit it, and is a frequent road racer but is too lazy to do really well. He currently resides in the Cotswolds, and you can now find him over on his own YouTube channel David Arthur - Just Ride Bikes

Have they spelled Minutiae wrong, or is it supposed to mean something else? 7
