Sidi’s new Frame shoe comes out the box

Sidi’s limited edition shoe, for not cycling in.

The grey and brown hardman classics are over and so it’s not long now till we’re flouncing around in pink with the Giro d’Italia, and what better to wear in front of the telly with a Peroni than the finest pair of Italian loafers.

Or as Sidi call them - Freetime shoes, some might say podium shoes, or nice slippers. Sidi, cordwainers of some of the finest racing clogs out there, have veered off the tarmac and onto the carpet with these new “Frame” shoes that are dripping in a certain Italian style.

The Frame is Sidi’s free time shoe and it’s skipping into the UK as a strictly hen’s teeth limited edition. It’s a multifunctional shoe, Sidi say, as opposed to a shoe for just cycling in at a guess, for daily use but inspired by cycling competition.

Made from a high breathability synthetic upper together with a special 3D coating mesh to make the shoe both light and comfortable the Frame is held tight with three Velcro straps, just like some of the cycling shoes in the Sidi collection, each embossed with Sidi motifs. The insole is moulded and removable, the cut eva midsole is in two colours and the sole is rubber, it says here. The Frame is available in three colours, White/Silver, that Black/Fluro Yellow colour combo that might still be on-trend, and Black/Silver.

Sidi say the Frames are comfortable, light shoes, suited to everyone and perfect for any occasion. Probably okay for padding round a village hall before a race but maybe not for a wedding, and even wandering round the shops might be a bit borderline in the fluro yellow ones. But if you feel you need to tell the world that you’re a cyclist in the 10 Items Or Less queue than the Frames will set you back £89.99 and are available from Bigbear Sports.

Jo Burt has spent the majority of his life riding bikes, drawing bikes and writing about bikes. When he's not scribbling pictures for the whole gamut of cycling media he writes words about them for road.cc and when he's not doing either of those he's pedaling. Then in whatever spare minutes there are in between he's agonizing over getting his socks, cycling cap and bar-tape to coordinate just so. And is quietly disappointed that yours don't He rides and races road bikes a bit, cyclo-cross bikes a lot and mountainbikes a fair bit too. Would rather be up a mountain.

I always think that if you turn up to a road race/crit/mtb race with a pair of these you'd better bloody win. It's like painting a target on your back 3

They look like something that Paulie Gualtieri might wear...

Aww, Sidi, why no buckles?

I'm gonna make mine a Mavic podium shoe. I like my slippers to stay tight on my feet.

When are they releasing the big slipper that you can get both feet in?

Really? They are so ugly. 31

Also if they make them in black won't every beefy biker in leathers be wearing them too?
