London Cycling Awards 2013 shortlist revealed... and road.cc is on it

Shortlist drawn up following public nominations... and winners of five categories announced today will be decided by public vote

The London Cycling Campaign (LCC) has announced the shortlists for the five categories at this year’s London Cycling Awards that go to public vote, and we were delighted to discover that road.cc is one of the names that feature.

We’ve been nominated in the Best Cycling Communication category alongside the Guardian Bike Blog and Cycling Weekly. Voting for the awards, which LCC is staging in partnership with the London Evening Standard, is now open, and closes on 1 May.  You can vote here - and you don't need to be in London.

Here’s the shortlists announced today, and it's flattering to us to be in this kind of company:

Best Brand:
Vulpine
Specialized
Rapha

Best Cycling Champion:
Bradley Wiggins
Andrew Gilligan
Jenny Gwiazdowski – Director of London Bike Kitchen

Best Cycling Communication:
Road.cc
Cycling Weekly
Guardian Bike Blog

Best Product:
Brompton
Knog ‘Blinder’
Schwalbe ‘London’ series tyres

Best Retailer:
Brixton Cycles
Velorution
Cycle Surgery

A panel of expert judges will decide the winners of five other categories. The shortlists for those haven’t been revealed.

LCC chief executive Ashok Sinha said, "The huge number of nominations we’ve received show just how much excitement surrounds cycling in the capital. Voting is now open for Londoners to cast their votes and applaud the people and the brands who’ve most inspired them over the last year.”

Tony Farrelly, road.cc’s editor, added: "What can I say, it's great to have what we're doing at road.cc recognised and the fact that we were nominated by London's cyclists makes it even better, especially when you look at the quality of nominations across the board for all the awards. So thanks to everyone who nominated us and, er… vote road.cc!"

Simon joined road.cc as news editor in 2009 and is now the site’s community editor, acting as a link between the team producing the content and our readers. A law and languages graduate, published translator and former retail analyst, he has reported on issues as diverse as cycling-related court cases, anti-doping investigations, the latest developments in the bike industry and the sport’s biggest races. Now back in London full-time after 15 years living in Oxford and Cambridge, he loves cycling along the Thames but misses having his former riding buddy, Elodie the miniature schnauzer, in the basket in front of him.

Nope, voting form doesn't ask for location or postcode. There's a link to it in the article now...

Amazing for us to be up against mega brands like Rapha and Specialized. We're going to give it a good go at winning, and hopefully our smashing passionate followers will help again. Without them we'd never have won the nomination. One year old! Eeek!

Congrats to Road.cc too. Deserv'd. Innit.
