Gaerne offer dedicated carbon Speedplay soles

The same shoes as worn by Fabian Cancellara now available with Speedplay-specific soles

Gaerne is to offer a new carbon fibre Speedplay-specific sole for all models of their G.Chrono and G.Platinum shoes from April, increasing the choice of Speedplay four-bolt soles now available. The G.Chrono are the same shoes as those worn by Fabian Cancellara in the recent Tour of Flanders, don’t you know.

Gaerne are the latest to offer a dedicated Speedplay sole. A few companies already do, like Northwave, Lake, Bont, DMT Rocket 7 and Sidi. Most shoes have three holes drilled into the sole which accept the many Look-style three-bolt cleat systems on the market. Speedplay use a four-bolt cleat and an adaptor must be used.

The benefit of a sole with a four drillings is reduced weight - there’s no adaptor - and a lower stack height, the distance between the ball of your foot and the axle is reduced. The Speedplay cleat needs a flat surface so the Gaerne sole is designed with a large flat surface area for the cleat to mount on.

Plenty of professional racers, including the aforementioned Cancellara, race with Speedplay pedals so it’s only natural that the shoe manufacturers should offer a specific model that is fully compatible.

The price with the new sole is identical to the regular model. So that’s £299,99 for the Carbon G.Chrono and £219.99 for the Carbon G. Platinum. More info at www.hotlines-uk.com
