Meet the Maker: Ricky Feather video

Bespoked Bristol go behind the scenes with Ricky Feather and reveal what he has lined up for the 2013 show

Bespoked Bristol (12-14 April) is fast approaching (watch for our preview this weekend) and ahead of the show the organisers are revisiting their popular Meet the Maker video series from past couple of years, and the latest heads to York to visit Ricky Feather.

In this video Ricky Feather, aka Feather Cycles, talks about the inspiration that got him into the frame making business, the sort of bikes he makes and how he approaches each build. He also remarks on winning the Best Road Bike (with this Rapha Continental build) And Best Track Bike at Bespoked the last two years. And, well a lot more really. We don’t want to give it all away now do we, to hit play on the video below, sit back and enjoy a rare insight into the life of a frame builder.

Okay we will give you another tit bit, he does reveal in the video that he plans to showcase a new Columbus XCr stainless steel frame, with raw brushed finished tubes and polished lugs which sounds just divine. And a Reynolds 953 frame with a similar raw finish, and a randonneur bike with custom racks and custom lights, which he’s excited about. And so are we.

Once you've watched the video, and because it's Friday, why not scroll back up to the top and treat yourself some more by clicking on our gallery featuring some of Feather's fantastic creations.

David worked on the road.cc tech team from 2012-2020. Previously he was editor of Bikemagic.com and before that staff writer at RCUK. He's a seasoned cyclist of all disciplines, from road to mountain biking, touring to cyclo-cross, he only wishes he had time to ride them all. He's mildly competitive, though he'll never admit it, and is a frequent road racer but is too lazy to do really well. He currently resides in the Cotswolds, and you can now find him over on his own YouTube channel David Arthur - Just Ride Bikes

I was rebuilding a nice 1990's Italian lugged 753 frame a couple of years ago with a straight chromed 1inch fork and modern group set - Ricky made me a beautiful custom 1inch ahead stem for the fork and made EXACTLY what I wanted (and then more). He is brilliant at understanding what you want and carrying it off with an artistry and degree of craftsmanship which will leave you seriously impressed.
Oh, and he's a complete gent too; thoroughly deserves all the success that seems to be increasingly coming his way.
