Witnesses sought to 'road rage' hit and run that left cyclist with broken arm

Gateshead Police looking for driver of small silver car that left the scene of incident on Friday evening

A cyclist has had his arm broken and was hospitalised in a suspected hit and run attack by a driver in Gateshead.

According to reports, the 42-year-old cyclist, was riding along Durham Road in Gateshead at around 7.20pm on Friday when he was involved in an altercation with the driver of a small silver car.

As a result of the row, the cyclist was left with a broken arm and sprained wrist, sustained when the driver knocked him off.

Police are seeking witnesses to the incident.

A Northumbria Police spokesman told Chronicle Live: “At this stage we believe that the car and the cyclist had been involved in some kind of altercation near to the Angel of the North in Low Fell which resulted in a collision near to the junction of Joicey Road.

"The cyclist, a 42-year-old man, was taken to hospital where he remains and is being treated for a broken arm and sprained wrist.”

Oh fancy that....somebody drives deliberately into two police officers and they are detained on suspicion of attempted murder.

Well that sets an interesting precedent on how you'd deal with someone who drove deliberately into a cyclist doesn't it, because we wouldn't want to think there are different rules for police officers and cyclists.

And to the unfortunate officers and the cyclist I'm sure I speak for everyone here in wishing you all a full and speedy recovery.

I wonder what the motorist would be charged with if he or she had driven deliberately into a police officer? Attempted murder, probably.

That's a long way from Angel to Joicey Road. Man so much more real when nearby. Or reported.
