Three held after cyclist killed in east London

Driver left the scene but was stopped nearby

Three men are being held after a cyclist was killed early this morning in Leytonstone, east London.

The cyclist, thought to be in his 30s, was on Gainsborough Road when he was hit and fatally wounded by a car at around 6.30am.

The driver left the scene but was stopped by police soon after. Two other men are also being held in connection with the incident.

A London Ambulance spokesman told the Evening Standard: "Sadly despite extensive treatment he was pronounced dead at the scene by the doctor."

The cyclist has not yet been formally identified and his next of kin have not yet been informed.
