Severn Bridge Sportive cancelled

Event could be moved back to original May date

The David Duffield Severn Bridge Sportive has been cancelled this year due to lack of numbers. The event, which was to raise funds for the CTC Charitable Trust, was due to take place on Sunday, September 13, starting from Castle Combe motor racing circuit, but organisers have had to pull the plug.

Andrew Wilcox, of Performance Cycles, who was helping organise the sportive said: “With only two weeks to go we only had 50 people taking part and this was not enough so we have sadly had to cancel it. We needed around 190 people.”

The date of this year’s event was changed from May to September, a time of year when there are a lot more sportives taking place, meaning that many of the usual following could not make it.

The event was going to offer three routes for cyclists of all abilities, which would take riders across the South West edge of the Cotswolds and into the Severn Valley, and then returning to Castle Combe.

Andrew added: “We are still organising a club ride for people to come along with their bike for free and do the same routes, but there will be no food and we will not be raising money.

“We are looking to reorganise the sportive next year and have it closer to its original May date.”
