That's Entertainment - Bradley Wiggins jams with Paul Weller at Crisis Presents gig

Britain's favourite mods also set to feature in Boxing Day show on BBC Radio 6 Music...

We all have heroes. For some, it's Bradley Wiggins, four times an Olympic champion and the first British rider to win the Tour de France. But for the Team Sky rider himself, it's Paul Weller, one-time frontman of The Jam and The Style Council and, for the past two decades, an acclaimed solo artist.

On Wednesday evening, Wiggins lived the dream of every Weller fan, taking to the stage at Hammersmith Apollo to jam - sorry [stop apologising… er… - ed] - with the Modfather himself as he played That's Entertainment at the annual benefit gig put on by the charity, Crisis, which campaigns against homelessness and provides shelter at Christmas for those without a roof over their heads.

For Wiggins, the feeling of being up there alongside his idol must have been akin to those of his own fans who were lucky enough to get on their bikes alongside him at the inaugural Ride With Brad sportive this summer, although they probably didn't have the pressure of a few thousand people watching to see if they fluffed a gear - or in his case, chord - change.

One Crisis volunteer, Fiona, who was at the concert told road.cc that Weller's set went down a storm, especially with "men of a certain age" as she put it, and the Tour de France champ's own part in it seemed to have met with approval as he left the stage to a chorus of Wiggo, Wiggo...!

Weller was also joined on stage briefly by his son Natt, who has himself embarked on a musical career - an echo of the scenes on the Champs-Elysees in July, when Wiggins' rather younger son, Ben, joined his dad and the rest of Team Sky for the lap of honour.

Wednesday wasn't the first time this year that Wiggins and Weller have collaborated - the pair recorded a one-off show for BBC Radio 6 Music earlier this year, which will be broadcast on Boxing Day. You can watch a clip here.
