Eddy vinyl figure released

Could this be the perfect Christmas gift?

If you’re still searching for the perfect Christmas gift for a cyclist then the new Eddy Vinyl Figure could be it.

It’s been designed by top illustrator Richard Mitchelson, he who was responsible for the Rouleur mugs which featured portraits of Merckx, Millar, Fignon, Lemond, Simpson, Hinault and Pantani.

So which Eddy is this? Given the obvious resemblance (allowing for the fact that it's a couple of inches high moulded plastic figure) and that he's wearing a Molteni top you'd be forgiven for thinking it must be Eddy Merckx… but there's no mention of the "M" word anywhere on the accompanying publicity info or packaging. Could it be it has not been officially endorsed by Mr M?

The vinyl figure is 6in tall and comes in a presentation box. It costs £35 and is available to pre-order now.

We think it’s a cool product and are hoping to find one under our Christmas tree.

David worked on the road.cc tech team from 2012-2020. Previously he was editor of Bikemagic.com and before that staff writer at RCUK. He's a seasoned cyclist of all disciplines, from road to mountain biking, touring to cyclo-cross, he only wishes he had time to ride them all. He's mildly competitive, though he'll never admit it, and is a frequent road racer but is too lazy to do really well. He currently resides in the Cotswolds, and you can now find him over on his own YouTube channel David Arthur - Just Ride Bikes

That's getting on for a new set of tyres! I know which I'd rather get for Christmas and the pair don't work out at roughly £5.83 per inch!

You know you have too much money if you're considering buying one of these, eh?

This is the stupidest thing i've seen all morning. If it was £3.50 it would still be ugly plastic tat.

If you buy the 2008 annual they will give you a 2012 calendar free though 41

Their prices are ridiculous.

errrr £35 is postage inc? Knowing Rouleur probably not ( that'll be £5 please). Nice ideal but to expensive and I'd have to keep it locked away in case the dog takes a fancy to it

It will sit very nicely to the box Rouler have come up with to keep your over priced mags in - a snip at £50
I kid you not - £50 for a freakin box!

Its a times like this i am reminded of the ancient proverb

London media types in their £400 Rapha socks will love to have one of these perched on top of their 45 inch Mac screens whilst they do some graphic design or new media or whatever it is they all actually do for a living in London.

PMSL. Probably the same folks who spend a tenner on a copy of Rouler. ( Which is nicely written but not £10 nicely written ).

Gawd. When I see things like this I always imagine the long line of puzzled factory workers in China - who could be making solar panels and the like - on an 18 hour shift painting eyebrows on plastic dolls of Eddy Merckx to sell at £35 a pop to decadent westerners so they can put them on a shelf to show they like cycling and collecting ironic dolls.

Stretch Armstrong v Lance Armstrong? Viz did it 2 months ago. V funny.

Maybe they're waiting to see if the Federal case will ever be reopened?

Then they could do one and call it Looking at a Long Stretch Armstrong...
