Charge launch Custom Saddle Builder

Let your imagination go wild with Charge’s design-your-own-saddle offering

Charge Bikes today launch their Custom Saddle Builder allowing you to design your very own saddle with a huge raft of personalisation options.

Using the popular Spoon (you can read our review here), you can choose any combination of cover materials, rails, logo, base, bumpers, even the colour of the stitching. Always craved a purple saddle with a yellow base, white stitching and orange rails? No, neither have we... But you could have one if you wanted. The limit is your imagination.

There's a choice of 13 cover colours (eight in standard fabric and five leather), nine base colours, nine bumper colours, eight logo colours and eight colours of stitching. And you can choose from steel or titanium rails. The website is very easy to use with simple drop down menus, and the price of your saddle is shown at the bottom as you create your dream saddle. Once you're happy with it, just hit the order button at the bottom.

We had a little play with it and after five minutes had this rather fetching saddle ready to go. Think you can do better? Why not have a play, create your own saddle, and then using the share button at the bottom of the screen, tweet your design to @roadcc.

A custom Spoon saddle will cost between £69.99 and £119.99, depending on which of the many options you go for. Delivery time is 30 days from order so you’ve plenty of time to contemplate whether it was wise to go for the pink stitching... International shipping is handled by Fed Ex. That's a lot of money, but Charge point out that the minimum run for a  standard Spoon is 1,000 saddles which delivers a fairly hefty economy of scale, and they are shipped to the UK by er, ship. Custom Lab saddles by contrast are hand stitched in a minimum run (and probably a maximum run too for that matter) of one and then flown here. The bottom line is bespoke individuality doesn't come cheap but if you want to stand out from the crowd or add that extra finishing touch to the look of your bike it might well be worth it.

Head over to the website and get designing.

I think JonMack has the same idea as me… for the ultimate in one-upmanship design a custom saddle that looks exactly like a standard one.

Only the trained eye of the connoisseur will be able to tell 39

On the other hand… buy a standard one and say you've had it custom made 39 39

Saddles are black, brown or white, if you are italian. Rules are rules.

Dont let idiots that dress in lycra design their own kit. It only encourages dresslexia.

I'll never get that 30 minutes back. Ever. I cant even use saddles without a cut out, even though I know that, I still spent 30 minutes designing, redesigning, and tweaking a saddle I will never own. 14
