Kohl caught out for doping at Le Tour

Austrian climber stripped of title

Bernard Kohl, the winner of this year's King of the Mountains jersey at the Tour de France yesterday became the latest and most high profile rider to be nabbed for micro-dosing Cera – a type of EPO. Kohl was caught by the French anti-doping agency (AFLD) which has been re-testing blood samples from this year's Tour. Kohl joins his Gerolsteiner team-mate Stefan Schumacher, and Leonardo Piepoli as riders revealed to have been doping at this year's Tour. Italian Riccardo Ricco was caught at the race itself a couple of days after an awesome display of climbing which subsequently proved to have been pharmaceutically enhanced. Schumacher won both Tour time trials and was briefly race leader, (all stage winners and the race leader are tested after every stage) Kohl was the Tour's top climber and also made it onto the podium in Paris in third place overall. All those caught were stage winners although Piepoli managed to fail the test twice… Kohl's Tour team Gerolsteiner disbanded at the end of this season he had signed a contract to ride for Silence in 2009.
