Trials ace takes Wiggins’ bike for a spin + video

Martyn Ashton mesmerizes with his skills on a Pinarello Dogma 2

Martyn Ashton Road Bike Party is one of those videos you just have to see. It’s trials supremo Ashton going for a ride on a Pinarello Dogma 2 – the same type of bike used by Bradley Wiggins for his Tour de France win – and the skills on display are stunning.

Footage of a bloke riding over a bridge in Bristol might not sound too exciting but you have never seen it done in quite this way before. It’ll make your stomach go all funny.

The 5-minute vid, a promotion for WD-40, was filmed by Robin Kitchin in a variety of urban and coastal settings. Ashton also hits the skatepark, rides a wall of death at the fair, and backflips from the most unlikely of locations – a golf course bunker.

The best bit from our point of view is that he does the whole thing on the £10,000 carbon road bike. Take a look…

Oh, and if you're wondering how many sets of those Hope wheels Martyn broke doing the video, we asked him (well, Dave did), and here's what he said: "I can honestly say that I didn't break a single thing. The bike is all good and I rode it on a normal road ride yesterday. I did have a spare set of wheels from Hope but they are still in their boxes. Had some great crashes though, the out-takes edit should be quite funny."

The wheels are our 5.0 Carbon Clinchers. They're all hand built in our factory in Barnoldswick. The only two things special about Martyn's wheels were the rim stickers and the green colour on the hubs. I must admit we expected him to damage a wheel, but they're still fine.

Love the wall of death, and I thought velodromes were scarey.

Excellent - that bit over the railway bridge was bonkers - did he do a H & S assessment first?

I cross that bridge (at ground level) every day. A fall either way could easily have been fatal. Kahunas!

Nice riding.

Not so impressed by the clip at the end showing - in true tragic tour podium girl style - that cycling is for men, and women are there to service the men. After the olympic successes in women's cycling, well done for dragging your gender back a few years ladies. Maybe one day you'll get your own bikes.

pinarello stunts = win
wd40 marketing = fail

Ashton=Legend, WD40=Problems!

Use oil for oiling, cleaner for cleaning and keep the WD40 for hinges and padlocks.
