Martyn Ashton mesmerizes with his skills on a Pinarello Dogma 2

Martyn Ashton Road Bike Party is one of those videos you just have to see. It’s trials supremo Ashton going for a ride on a Pinarello Dogma 2 – the same type of bike used by Bradley Wiggins for his Tour de France win – and the skills on display are stunning.

Footage of a bloke riding over a bridge in Bristol might not sound too exciting but you have never seen it done in quite this way before. It’ll make your stomach go all funny.

The 5-minute vid, a promotion for WD-40, was filmed by Robin Kitchin in a variety of urban and coastal settings. Ashton also hits the skatepark, rides a wall of death at the fair, and backflips from the most unlikely of locations – a golf course bunker.

The best bit from our point of view is that he does the whole thing on the £10,000 carbon road bike. Take a look…

Oh, and if you're wondering how many sets of those Hope wheels Martyn broke doing the video, we asked him (well, Dave did), and here's what he said: "I can honestly say that I didn't break a single thing. The bike is all good and I rode it on a normal road ride yesterday. I did have a spare set of wheels from Hope but they are still in their boxes. Had some great crashes though, the out-takes edit should be quite funny."

Excellent - that bit over the railway bridge was bonkers - did he do a H & S assessment first?

i realise it might not be everyones cup of tea, but come on big kudos to do that at all.

On a road bike even better.

nevertheless i wonder how many frames/fork/wheels e.t.c he trashed in the making of that? must have been a little damage in practice. still impressive though

I want to see out-takes and buckled wheels. There is no way all that was done on one set.

But as for putting WD-40 anywhere need my chainset.......NO, I've heard it does work well for cleaning carbon though

That one's a couple of years old - looks like he's honed his road bike skills considerably since then.

If I can get a credible quote that says he did that on one set of Hope Hoops I am going out and buying 2 Pairs right now.

Is it International Inappropriate Bike Choice Day or something? Road bikes for stunts, Boris bikes for LEJOG - what next? Using a unicycle to transport a sofa? Climbing the Angliru on a track bike? Riding a crabon bike in a match of cycle polo? Using a Raleigh Chopper for... any purpose whatsoever?

This is from his twitter feed when asked how many wheels he damaged

"@cyclingplus @liverpoolmerc No damages mate. Just one bike, still in perfect condition. Road it in a more traditional way for 1hr yesterday"

Superb... Made me feel happy to be alive, a smile on my face and an amazed chuckle at many of the stunts... God like bike control... One skilled and cool guy!!! Tops! Thank you very much for showing us this.

Saw him riding THAT bike in Porthcawl about 2 weeks ago, struggled to get my head around doing trials on a road bike... Let alone a Dogma 39 The wheels up close are well nice! #seriouslyjealous

personally always been a fan of hope stuff, and although have a set of their mtb hubs, have never had their hoops, yet.

after that video will definitely be looking at some. sod being a promo for WD40 should be a promo for hope (and pinarello)

i think the wheels are hope hoops pro3 rs-sp 3.0 (although happy to be corrected)

oh, it's a WD40 ad? I'm not even joking! 10

but what he did can be likened to doing parkour in high heels, literally no words! 13

Utterly bonkers. But the best bit for me was seeing a bicycle in Blenheim Palace. We are banned from there, even if we don't do stupid things on the bridge.
