We've been at the swanky Hilton Metropole at the Birmingham NEC this evening for the 2012 Bikebiz awards. And we've walked away with not one, but two!
It's a third gong in three years in the Best Consumer Website category - after a year in which we've seen our traffic more than double we're really happy that once again the UK bike industry has acknowledged our efforts with the award. And we've also picked up a new award in its first year: Best Use of Social Media. In a year where we've topped 10,000 followers on twitter and been ranked number 34 in the Hedstream Social Brands 100, the Bikebiz award is the icing on the cake.
Now for the gushing acceptance speech... we'd like to thank everyone that's worked so hard to make road.cc the site it is. Writers, reviewers, commercial team, designers, photogaphers and other contributors: there's a lot of people to say thankyou to. But most of all we'd like to thank our readers. That's you, that is. road.cc is all about the community: without you guys the site would be desolate and pointless. So thanks for coming! We really hope you continue to visit, and push us to make the site better and better. Gosh, we're welling up. Best hit the bar.
And here's Tony giving a brief acceptance speech offstage after picking up the awards - a fair bit of background noise, but hopefully you'll be able to gather what he's saying.
Dave is a founding father of road.cc and responsible for kicking the server when it breaks. In a previous life he was a graphic designer but he's also a three-time Mountain Bike Bog Snorkelling world champion, and remains unbeaten through the bog. Dave rides all sorts of bikes but tends to prefer metal ones. He's getting old is why.
