Bromley couple start neighbourhood bike rental scheme
Bicycle buddies links people up with spare rides for cash

A couple in Bromley are taking on the Barclays Cycle Hire scheme - offering neighbourhood rentals for as little as £7.50 a day.

Angela Bevan and Colin Doran launched the Bicycle Buddies service alongside their London Guest room rentals, and there are already a number of bikes advertised on the site.

Angela told This Is Local London: "We came up with the idea after we looked into hiring a bike for the day and realised how expensive it was.

"After some research we were surprised to see nobody else provides this service.

"We’ve had really good feedback so far and we’re hoping to find an investor later this year."

A deposit paid by the renter covers loss and repairs, and bike are hired out at the owner's risk. They are also advised to include a lock in the rental package.

After an unpromising start, having to be bribed by her parents to learn to ride without stabilisers, Sarah became rather keener on cycling in her university years, and was eventually persuaded to upgrade to proper road cycling by the prospect of a shiny red Italian bike, which she promptly destroyed by trapping a pair of knickers in the rear derailleur. Sarah writes about about cycling every weekend on road.cc.
