Isle of Wight Festival of Cycling has something for everyone

Week of cycling events includes races, guided rides, skills sessions and more

It’s often said that the best way of experiencing and exploring a picturesque place is by bike at your own pace. Well you will be able to on the Isle of Wight next month as the Isle of Wight Cycling Festival takes pace from September 19-September 27.

The festival offers cyclists of all levels a comprehensive selection of rides during the week, including the famous 70 mile Cycle the Wight and the ultra-tough Hills Killer Mountain Bike challenge, as well as family rides and forest trails.

Other attractions will include a Wheel of Life Challenge, Cycle Safari, Pedal 4 Parkinson’s Ride, a story cycle and cycle maintenance workshops. For a full list of the events and dates visit www.sunseaandcycling.com

Each day of the week the festival will offer cyclists the opportunity to get off the beaten track and sample different cycling routes that will take in the most picturesque and unspoilt areas of the island.

The festival launch show runs from 11am-4pm at Seaclose Park, Newport, and riders can have a go at the challenging obstacle course, learn new cycling skills, try a unicycle, or join in with one of the free guided rides leading to or from the park.

There will also be electric bikes, cycle security information, road safety displays and lots more family entertainment including face painting, bouncy castles, magic shows and circus skills.

Visitors will also be able to watch Team Extreme shows and witness riders launching into the air to perform stunts such grinds, spins and flips. They will also provide coaching for the public between displays so bring your wheels and have a go.
