SyringeDanish Cycling Union dismisses board member after he tests postive for 3 banned substances in veterans' race
The Danmarks Cykle Union (DCU), the governing body for cycling in Denmark, has dismissed one of its board members for doping after he tested positive for three prohibited substances during a veterans’ race in June.
A statement from the DCU, quoted on Yahoo! Eurosport, read: "On June 30, veteran cyclist Soren Svenningsen tested positive in a doping test in a Danish H40 race. The sample showed traces of two different glucocorticoids and testosterone."
The DCU confirmed that the 47-year-old, former owner of the defunct Capinordic cycling team, would be leaving its board with immediate effect and would also be vacating his position as chair of the Holte Cycling Club.
"I am deeply shocked to have received the news of Soren Svenningsen's positive drug tests,” commented DCU president Tom Lund. “We stand for a clear and consistent doping position in the DCU.
"That a leader in Danish cycling who is also a board member of DCU tested positive, and thus breaks our trust, is inexcusable.
"As president of DCU, I would like to emphasise that our anti-doping line will continue to be sharp and consistent, and we will continue to hunt down cheats."

What an incredibly daft thing to do - in a veterans race! I agree with the union, a complete breach of trust. Quite what the motivation for this sort of action is, who can say? So now he will get a suspension, which probably won't matter, as who would dare show their face again after being branded a doper at the age of 47?
A quick google reveals that Glucocorticoids are the kind of "steroids" given to patients suffering auto-immune diseases. However they also increase gluconeogenesis - the production of glucose from other (non-carbohydrate) substances such as lactate. Whether that means it'll make your legs hurt less I've no idea. The side affects are pretty dire, too.
There is little evidence that glucocorticoids have any performance enhancing properties; why do people take them? I think because they sound like anabolic-steroids...glucocorticoids are not good for you and are only prescribed when necessary.
