Bradley Wiggins confirms he will ride Tour of Britain

Tour de France winner and Olympic time trial champion set to undertake 850-mile lap of honour

Bradley Wiggins has confirmed that he will ride next month's Tour of Britain. The Tour de France winner and Olympic time trial champion's patticipation is certain to draw big crowds to the week-long race, which begins in Ipswich on Sunday 9th September and concludes the following Sunday in Guildford.

The Team Sky rider broke the news at today's inaugural Ride With Brad Sportive in Lancashire in aid of his Bradley Wiggins Foundation charity, reports BBC Sport, which quoted the 32-year as saying: "I'm doing the Tour of Britain. It'll be nice. I'll try to stay fit between now and then so I don't embarrass myself. It'll be good."

Wiggins made a brief trip home to Lancashire family following his win in Paris before heading to Surrey to prepare for the Olympic road race and time trial. Since winning the fourth Olympic gold of his career a two and a half weeks ago, he's been enjoying a bit of downtime, including a family holiday on Mallorca.

He had been due to ride in the Tour of Denmark, which starts on Wednesday, but last week Team Sky confirmed he would be sitting that race out.

Dear Work

I can confirm that on Monday the 10th of september I will be sick

Under no circumstances are you to infer that this has anything to do with Bradley Wiggins racing in the Tour of Britain and the stage starting 1mile away from the office - purely coincidental.

You will be pleased to know that I will be better on Tuesday and will be back at my desk at the usual time of 9.05

Thanks for your understanding at this difficult time
