road.cc up for two BikeBiz awards!

We're nominated as best consumer website again, and also in the social media category...

We were delighted and also honoured to hear yesterday that we've been nominated in not one but two categories for the 2012 Bikebiz awards, the cycle industry awards for the UK.

Your super soaraway road.cc is of course the current holder of the award for BikeBiz best consumer cycling website, having notched up two wins in the previous two years, so we're hoping to repeat our success there. Certainly it's been another fantastic year for the site, with the number of visits to the site currently up by over 90% on last year, and pageviews for a single month smashing through the 2m barrier in July, peaking at 2.2m for the tour. We've been working hard to make the site more useful, we've hugely improved our Fantasy Cycling game and currently we're busy updating our hosting to make the site faster. We've lots of other plans too...

We've also been nominated in the category for best use of social media. We're especially happy about this one as we've been working really hard to grow our social reach, work that was vindicated when we reached number 34 on the Social Brands 100 ranking, sitting above the likes of the BBC, Google and the National Lottery. We're approaching 10,000 twitter followers and we're over 6,500 likes on facebook. We're still growing, and next up we're embracing YouTube and Google+...

You can't vote for us (unless you're in the industry, dahling), but we'd like to thank everyone that comes to the site for making road.cc what it is today. four years ago it was three of us sat in a tiny office in the attic of a Bath townhouse with an idea and a couple of books on content management systems. It's been a fun/stressful/amazing/hard journey and we're hugely grateful for all the support, both from the industry and the greater cycling community, that's brought us to where we are today. Even if we don't get anything on the night except for pissed up, we feel like winners. Gushy bit over.

Dave is a founding father of road.cc, having previously worked on Cycling Plus and What Mountain Bike magazines back in the day. He also writes about e-bikes for our sister publication ebiketips. He's won three mountain bike bog snorkelling World Championships, and races at the back of the third cats.

Totally agree - my favourite website, not least because of the social aspect. It's the fact that discussion is integrated into the stories (rather than in the seperate forum, like it is on most sites) that makes people feel part of the site rather than just a visitor to it.

Have you got a cabinet for all the (potential) silverware?

Ooh, good glass blocks. Get enough of them and you could make a partition!
