If you're thinking about cycling to the Olympics but aren't sure what to do with your bike when you get there, there's another option in the form of FREE secure bike parking in Hackney from Bike Dock Solutions.

There is free secure parking at Victoria Park for cyclists visiting the Games, but this bike park in Shoreditch is handy for tourists and commuters alike - perfect if you've dusted off your Sunday best bike thanks to overcrowded Tubes and don't want it nicked.

The bike park will provide space for up to 60 bicycles and will be open 24 hours a day throughout the duration of the London Olympics.

It's located on Rivington Street, Shoreditch, Hackney – close to Shoreditch High Street station, handy for the Overground to the Olympic Park and within easy reach of the City.

“Some commuters are being advised to avoid public transport during the games – we’re hoping that our bike park will provide people with an incentive to leave their Oyster Cards at home and instead cycle to work,” Bike Dock Solutions director James Nash explained.

Charlie Lloyd, campaigns officer at the London Cycling Campaign commented: “Hopping on a bike is the best way to avoid the transport chaos expected over the next few weeks. It's a great time to discover how easy it is cycling to work or for a night out.

“Bike Dock Solutions free parking in Shoreditch is a brilliant boost to help more people enjoy riding a bike. It would be great if others could sponsor more free parking."

Do bring a lock though - the semi-vertical racks can take a lock through wheel or frame, as can Bike Dock Solutions' ‘Toastracks’.

Bike Dock Solutions bike park address: Rivington Street, EC2A 3AY (Opposite the Comedy Café)

After an unpromising start, having to be bribed by her parents to learn to ride without stabilisers, Sarah became rather keener on cycling in her university years, and was eventually persuaded to upgrade to proper road cycling by the prospect of a shiny red Italian bike, which she promptly destroyed by trapping a pair of knickers in the rear derailleur. Sarah writes about about cycling every weekend on road.cc.

Rivington Street for Olympic Park, you must be kidding - its at least 20-25 min to cycle to the east end of Victoria Park, and then a 15-20 min walk in through Greenway gate (over the top of Northern Outfall Sewer).

Rivington St might suit those working in Hoxton/Shoreditch area cycling in to town or at a pinch as a place to leave a bike overnight when coming in to Shoreditch High St Station.

Cyclehoop have also put in some extra parking in Westminster, again not near to stations or venues. There is a downloadable map of existing and temporary parking in central London, available as download from TfL website.

Spaces still available ay OnYourBike secure bike parking under London Bridge Station, but I think they should offer a special deal for the duration of removed racks period at London Bridge Station - say 2 months for same rate as annual season ticket.

Reports from Victoria Park, and Eton Dorney/Eton Manor are of plenty of spaces to spare.
