TDF website 2012 redesignTour de France website redesigned ahead of the start of this year's race
The official website of the Tour de France has been given a major overhaul ahead of the Grand Départ of the 2012 race in Liège on Saturday, with new mapping functions and plenty of video content including overviews of each stage of the race.
The Tour has had a web presence since 1997, but the site had its last major redesign in 2007. Since then, visitor numbers have jumped from 5 million to 15 million last year and we’ve also seen an explosion in the use of social media, a feature expertly harnessed by Giro d’Italia organisers RCS Sport, with tour owners ASO seen as lagging behind.
That seems set to change, with the new Tour de France website also promising to provide an “overhaul of the live update interface gives fans the opportunity to customise their experience on letour.fr” – Saturday will give us an opportunity to see whether they deliver on that.
It’s not just the race organisers who have undertaken a refresh of their website ahead of the Tour, either – Slipstream Sports, owner of Garmin-Sharp-Barracuda, has just unveiled the new version of its site, including plenty of video and other content to keep you occupied while waiting for Saturday’s Grand Départ.

Seen a lot of people slating the Tour de France website but I have to say I really like it... all about taste I suppose.
