New, unreported event, or LOCOG cock-up?

Here's your Thursday morning snigger: Carlton Reid over at BikeBiz has shared this pic with us, of his highly coveted ticket for the Olympic Time Trail.

Hang on, what's that then? Is Hampton Court being ploughed up as we speak? Are we looking forward to seeing Bradley Wiggins decimate 27 miles of MTB trail at 40mph? Well hell, we'd pay good money for that!

We at roadcc would be the last to throw stones when it comes to the odd typo (Time Trail, Time Trial, you say potato etc.). But given that cycling events at London 2012 are some of the biggest tickets, and are intended to usher in London's Year of Cycling, we suspect there might be some red faces at LOCOG HQ this morning.

Still, what they saved on proofreaders might buy them an extra sheep for a starring role in Danny Boyle's opening ceremony extravaganza.

After an unpromising start, having to be bribed by her parents to learn to ride without stabilisers, Sarah became rather keener on cycling in her university years, and was eventually persuaded to upgrade to proper road cycling by the prospect of a shiny red Italian bike, which she promptly destroyed by trapping a pair of knickers in the rear derailleur. Sarah writes about about cycling every weekend on road.cc.

typical of sport organisations in this country, or maybe just a typo as it went to print .....

My 14 year old son read the text on that ticket five times and said 'trial' every time. It was only when I covered up the rest of the text did he see it was 'trail'.

Such a typo is an easy mistake to make and I've made it lots of times: but I'd probably double check if I was in charge of printing tickets for a stupidly well-funded, global mega-event.

The Twitter hashtag #olypmics throws up lots of other great events the London Olympics could stuff up by just one letter: 100m beaststroke, 50km wa*k, shopjumping etc etc

Cycling events aren't exactly named to avoid confusion. "Trail riding" is used to label how a lot of MTB riders like to ride these days, but is very different to "trials", which is again very different to "time trials". Then there is "XC", which is an entirely different event to "CX".

True, but it's fair enough to expect the people organising Olympic events to have some sort of understanding of what the events actually involve I think.

And as Carlton says, sure everyone makes typos now and again- but when it's the biggest sporting event on the planet the bar is a little higher.

Bothered? Not about a simple typo error! But, certainly bothered about the Un-necessary charge to watch the Time Trial and certain areas of the road races! Rip off Britain. What a shame.
