Sneak peek: Koga Kimera team replica

Dutch brand releases new carbon race machine

Koga are launching a new team replica bike, the Kimera Road UD Team, that’ll be available from next month.

It is built around a high modulus carbon frame with a unidirectional finish – a frame that the Dutch brand’s race team has been riding since the start of the season.

The frame features a tapered head tube and a press fit bottom bracket – both of which have become pretty much standard fare on performance bikes over the past few years for extra rigidity. The dropouts are carbon too. Like the frame, the fork is unidirectional carbon while the cables are routed through the head tube.

The Kimera Road UD Team is available in two different builds. The more expensive one has a Shimano Ultegra groupset, and it’s £2,199. You can opt for either a triple chainset or go for a compact.

The Shimano 105 version is available as a triple only at £1,899. The claimed weight is 7.8kg (17.16lb).

Both models come with Koga’s own compact bend handlebar, stem and seat post. They also get a Kimera saddle and Koga wheelset featuringwhite butted spokes.

Check out the range at www.koga.com.

That's not unusual on team replica bikes at this price - the 'replica' bit really refers to the frame and the paint job. In fact, the compact seems to be becoming almost standard on performance road bikes up to £2K and even slightly above - nearly all the bikes we've had in recently have compacts the only exception I can think of is the very light, very expensive, and very lovely Cyfac Gothica, oh and maybe the Pretorius Outeniqua.

Interesting to see Koga offering a triple option though - I like triples but you wouldn't have thought a granny ring would see much action in Holland.
