Fancy trying some cycle racing with a difference? Next Sunday's Shred Classic round Plymouth Hoe could be for you

Crit racing with a twist for 2nd, 3rd, and 4th cat riders

Crit racing with a difference comes to Plymouth next weekend with next Sunday's annual Shred Classic Bicycle Race on a closed circuit around Plymouth Hoe. The Plymouth Sky Ride is on beforehand too so you could make a family day out of it.

So what's different about the Shred Classic? Well the format for a start instead of one big race the Shred Classic is based on a knock out format of short, intense 15 minute eliminator heats on a tough little circuit that sits on the promenade above Plymouth's historical waterfront. To spice things up still further there are prime prizes up for grabs in all the heats. Oh, and to top if all off there will be live DJs (not sure we can think of any other crit races that have those) and commentary from Joe Fisher of the Tour Series fame.

Organiser Steve Toze from Spike Publicity is keen to stress that this is an amateur race, "South Devon has produced some amazing riders over the years, including Jon Tiernan-Locke and Jeremy Hunt, they sharpened their teeth in short punchy crit races like this. There's nothing like seeing a bike race to make want to do a bike race. The Shred Classic is about inspiring local riders to raise their game, put on a good show and inspire the kids of Plymouth to get on their bikes and race too. With the Skyride taking place during the morning and early afternoon we hope there'll be lots of potential cycle racers watching. The short, flat circuit and heat format has produced some amazing prime winners over the past couple of years as it's not all about having the biggest lungs or legs."

Entries are still open, there's a free pair of Sockguy socks worth £9.99 for the first 50 rides that enter online. With prizes worth £50+ for every prime, in every heat, and a cash prize for the overall winners it's set to be a great evening of racing in Plymouth City.

You can find out more at the race website www.shredclassic.com and you can enter online via the Shred Classic page on the British Cycling website.
