BikeTubes set to ride again

Group-commute will build on success during Tube strikes

The success of the Bike Tube scheme during the recent Underground strikes has prompted the London Cycling Campaign (LCC) to run more ‘Tubes’ this summer.

Although organisers are currently staying tight-lipped over dates and locations, it has been announced the 10 Tubes a week for 10 weeks will be run in an attempt to encourage novice or returning cyclists to ride to work.

The LCC will provide experienced marshals to guide groups of riders from the suburbs into central London, while Transport for London will publicise details of each ride through their website, www.tfl.gov.uk

There is a dedicated BikeTube website at www.biketube.org.uk and details of rides will also be posted there.

Hundreds of riders took part in BikeTubes during the Underground strike in June, prompting LCC chief executive Koy Thomson to consider running more Tubes, “even when there’s no disruption’ in a bid to encourage more people on to their bikes.

Yours truly will be one of the marshals chaperoning you through town.
