Former Serbian coach arrested in doping bust

Twelve pro riders allegedly involved

An alleged doping ring of significant proportions has been uncovered by Italian police, who have arrested Serbia’s former national cycling coach.

Police in Padua, a city 30 miles west of Venice, said that around 30 people are suspected of being involved in the ring, including 12 professional cyclists, executives of drug companies and three directors of cycling teams.

They are suspected of smuggling banned substances, including the banned blood booster CERA.

Alexandar Nikacevic, the 31-year-old former Serbian coach, is said by police to have had a central role in the ring. Most of the other suspects are Italian.
