Hincapie clothing coming through Evans this Spring + video

BMC's 'Big George' kit more than just a sideline

Hincapie cycling clothing has been around since 2002 and this Spring it will be sold through the Evans UK bike shops and online. The range includes this Champion of Belgium jersey in honour of Philippe Gilbert who joined George Hincapie on the BMC professional team this season,

Imagine our surprise when we found that the Hincapie brand is more than just the usual professional's vanity project; the production comes from Colombia, South America where Big George's Aunt and Uncle, Marie and Jorge, his extended family and seemingly half the town of Medelin make the garments as the video below shows.

George Hincapie first rose to prominence as a top USA amateur, racing at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona before signing for Motorola as a professional in 1994 and staying with the team when it evolved into US Postal Service and then Discovery. Hincapie raced two seasons for Team Highroad before joining the new BMC Racing Team in 2010 where he still rides and indeed with his business hat on provides the team kit.

Hincapie has the distinction of having participated in eight Tour de France winning teams and is also the only cyclist ever to represent the USA at five Olympic Games.

Coming to the 50 Evans shops nationwide and on their website will be Gilbert's achingly hip BMC team jersey for £74.99 - and a matching cotton cap for £9.99 - with the standard red BMC Racing Team short sleeve jersey £69.99, but the majority of the 20-odd Hincapie pieces are in strong, plain colours with an athletic Lycra-based leaning for both men and women. It's not on the Evans website yet but the Hincapie website gives a taster here.

No, not a new thing, was distributed through Eurobike in the UK in 2010 and sold on many sites / stores, but Hincapie pulled out of the UK after a short time to focus on the US market.

I got a BMC pro kit from them 2 years ago so is this really a new thing? Admittedly it was a competition thing so maybe they got it from BMC directly
