The Prostate Cancer Charity have been involved with a number of high-profile cycle events in recent years, including the Dragon Ride and the Tour Ride series that runs alongside the Tour of Britain. This year they're teaming up with online bike giants Wiggle to bring you a new sportive: the Jurassic Classic.
Starting on Sunday 8 July from the seaside resort of Exmouth (where another great ride this year will finish), the Jurassic Classic promises to offer some challenging riding; East Devon isn't known for its rolling plains, after all. The 100km route will visit Budleigh Salterton, Otterton, Sidmouth, Sidford, Sidbury, Honiton and the Otter Vale while the longer loop will go further along the coast to Beer, Seaton, Lyme Regis and Charmouth before heading back to base via Axminster.
Ride HQ will be at the Exmouth Rugby Club, and the Club and the local council will be laying on entertainment to amuse the familes of the riders. There's the beach too...
Mark Bishop, Director of Fundraising for The Prostata Cancer Charity, said: “We are extremely excited to announce the Wiggle Jurassic Classic 2012. The event is designed to fulfil the challenge needs of those with varying amounts of cycling experience. With a route set out along the Jurassic coastline we hope riders can enjoy the stunning scenery along the way and finish up at Exmouth Rugby Club to enjoy a celebratory drink with their supporters.
“Every year 37,000 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer and with one man dying every hour from the disease we are urging cyclists to sign up, enjoy the day and support The Prostate Cancer Charity.”
Entry for either distance costs £28 and that includes all the usual sportivey stuff: feed stations, chip timing, signposting and a finisher's medal. For more information point your browser at www.jurassic-classic.org.uk
