Live tracking! Gore Bike recce ride
For your viewing pleasure Dave tackles 90 miles and 2600m of climbing
It's a lovely day for a ride which is why we've sent Dave off to recce the route of Round 1 of the Gore Bike Wear sportive at Llanwrtyd Wells and we're traking him live so you can follow his progress over the 90 mile route with its 2600m of climbing including the Devil's staircase.
It'll be just like being there… without the pain.
He'll be reporting back later with words and pics, but in the meantime enjoy the ride.
You can have a go at the real thing on 4th of July entries are still open and there's the choice of 50 or 90 mile routes.
Click on the marker to see the current ride stats, the map will refresh every two minutes.
this is very snazzy, I like! Wish id checked my emails eariler and had been able to join dave on the ride though

yeah, I noticed that… early lunch perhaps
He appears to have been missing out parts of the route using teleportation.

Must be some cake
what system is he using?

News just in! He hasn't been eating an enormous cake it's just that there's no signal up there in the hills - hence the straight lines on the map every time he does get a bit of signal.
Word from the big man is that it is an "amazingly beautiful' ride… and "very hard" he's done the Devil's Staircase and now watch his average speed grow suspiciously rapid as he hoofs it along to the end of the route to do some filming at the military range at the route's end.
Might have some pics to post in a mo, if and that's very much an if, Dave's remembered his USB cable…
As to what system he is using? We're tracking him via the GPS in his phone (so no phone signal - no track) combined with some software whizz-bangery that sticks it into the road.cc database and from there on to the site.
very cool stuff. Hoping that I am fortunate enough to ride this event...sounds great, looking forward to the pictures guys

wow! that map is a *mess*. should have turned the gps off before i set off home
like tone said i said, it's an awesome route, lots of hard climbing and some unbelieveable scenery. The Tawe valley is just incredible, what a road. The two climbs at the start (the Devil's Staircase and the other one) are really tough too
we didn't make it all the way round sadly as we were trying to film and take pics too and we kind of ran out of time. so we got in the van for 25 miles and rode the last bit across the Eppynt range which is one of my favourite rides (and descents!)
below some pics to give a flavour of the ride, video (and more pics) tomorrow.
Good going Dave, what a fantastic day for it too!
It's not just about the size of your cog.

What camera you using on the bike?

Ahh, I have yet to meet someone else with a handlebar cam like mine!

it looks like a beautiful ride, will have to do it sometime.
