Strathclyde Police are appealing for witnesses following an incident during yesterday's evening rush hour when an as yet un-named 22-year old male cyclist was fatally injured in a collision with a dark coloured vehicle.

The incident occurred on Paisley Road West near the junction with Portman Street at about 5.45pm - the vehicle, which was heading westbound did not stop after the collision and according to a report on the BBC website continued on in the direction of Paisley. The cyclist was taken to Southern General Hospital, but died there shortly after arrival.

Anyone with information relating to the incident is asked to contact the Road Policing Unit at Strathclyde Police on 0141 532 5400.

Regardless of who's to blame, I just can't understand how someone can leave another human being to die like that. It makes me sick!

You would think CCTV equipment would be able to capture the license number of the car involved.

@ oldridgeback. If my memory serves me right there's no cctv along that stretch. It's also not the greaatest stretch to cycle on. Each side has two lanes but the nearside lane has parked cars all the time. Probably a local driver if not somebody using it as a rat run to join the M8 after the 77/8 interchange. Personally I avoid this road on the bike and take a longer detour in and out of the city.

Oh yeah, and gets better, immediately after the junction the westbound side becomes 1 lane, while the eastbound continues with two , one of these being a buslane explaining the change on one side. Yet another road planning faux pas
