Try your hand on the rollers in JD Cycles' Christmas challenge

There's £20 to be won for the greatest distance covered in five minutes...

If you've been following the what's on section of road.cc it won't have escaped your notice that the JDs five minute roller ride is on there. A lot. Every day, in fact. So what is it?

Well, it's a time trial basically. Get on the rollers and see how far you can manage in five minutes. JD are running the compo every day until December 20, and there's a £20 voucher for the best score, with the winner announced on the 20th. You can have as many goes as you like, though we'd suggest that five minutes flat out on the rollers is probably not something you'll be better at second time round in a day; best to spread your efforts out a bit. The bike in question is a very nice Cervélo R5. With flat pedals. That's surely some kind of crime.

Obviously you'll need to be within spitting distance of JD's shop in Ilkely, but it's a great way to try out the rollers, or go for the win if you're experienced at that kind of thing. They're even throwing in a free cuppa for every entrant. What's not to like?

on the final day we still have people coming in to try their legs out. Proving popular so weve extended til Friday
Top podium spot is Tim Ashelford with 3.18.

Well as a nearly 1/2 way update the scores on the doors are as follows.

In first Rob Kelly 3.11 miles (Student with nothing better to do)
In Second H Tarrant 2.9 miles (Student with nothing better to do)
In Third S Warren with 2.79 miles (hard working father of 4 with mortgage to pay)

There are still 7 days to go so Im sure things will change.

Weve got flat pedals so that all are equal. No straps for boring safety. Standing (read Sitting) start. Furthest so far is a measly 2.9 miles

Flat pedals with or without straps?

I would cost me more than £20 to get there, but its something i'd love to try
